Nebraska Rural Response Hotline 1-800-464-0258

Legal Aid of Nebraska’s Farm and Ranch Project offers free services to individuals and families throughout rural Nebraska, with a particular (though not exclusive) emphasis on agriculture. Legal Aid of Nebraska, Interchurch Ministries and the Rural Response Council, with other supporters, maintain the Rural Response Hotline. The Hotline started during the farm crisis in the 1980s and has remained in existence. It is the longest, continuously running farm hotline in the nation.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

We can all help prevent suicide. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.

National Hispanic Latino Mental Health Training Center

The mission of the center is to provide high-quality training and technical assistance to improve the capacity of the workforce serving Hispanic and Latino communities in behavioral health prevention, treatment, and recovery.

National Hispanic Family Health Helpline

M–F 9am–6pm ET; Bilingual health promotion advisors provide free reliable and confidential health information in Spanish and English to help callers navigate the health system and refer out over 13,000 healthcare providers.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

Grassroots mental health organization that has local chapters and provide programming and support across the country.

Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network

This Center address rural mental health and recognizes that the agricultural community encounter unique challenges related to the accessibility, availability, and acceptability of mental health services. Specific training and resources have been developed to address mental health and suicide among agricultural workers and their families.

MO Ask Listen Refer

The MO ALR Suicide Prevention Training Program was designed to help Missouri residents prevent suicide by teaching you to: identify people at risk for suicide, recognize the risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs of suicide, and respond to and get help for people at risk.

Michigan Substance Use, Prevention, Education and Recovery

Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, MiSUPER is a two-year collaborative project from MSU Extension, the MSU College of Human Medicine Family Medicine (MSU-CHM) and the Health Department of Northwest Michigan (HDNW). The overall goal of the MiSUPER project is to increase awareness of opioid misuse in rural communities regarding prevention, addiction treatment options, and recovery support so that community members and healthcare professionals can recognize signs of misuse, suggest options for professional treatments and support those in recovery.

The purpose of the MHTTC Network is technology transfer—disseminating and implementing evidence-based practices for mental disorders into the field.

Mental Health Resources in Illinois

Approximately 3.21% of adults in Illinois are diagnosed with a serious mental health issues (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, etc.). More than half of those people do not receive mental health treatment. This website helps those people get referrals to receive treatment, lists many possible mental health providers, and gives info on how to get health coverage.

This course is designed to help farmers and ranchers understand their current financial position and how big decisions like large purchases, new leases or changes in production will affect their bottom line. Iowa Concern

Iowa Concern is a program of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Iowa Concern serves both rural and urban populations and services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week at no charge. Iowa Concern has access to an attorney for legal education, stress counselors, and information and referral service for a variety of topics.

Indiana AgrAbility and Breaking New Ground

AgrAbility is a USDA-sponsored program that assists farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural workers with disabilities. While the term “disability” often brings to mind conditions such as spinal cord injuries and amputations, AgrAbility addresses not only these but also many other conditions, such as arthritis, back impairments, and behavioral health issues.

Illinois Warm Line

This phone number connects individuals with staff who are professionally trained to provide access to services such as wellness education, community resources, emotional support, and referrals. This service is free to anyone in Illinois. The “warm-line” is available Monday–Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm.

Illinois Sustainable Ag Partnership Stress and Mental Health Resources

Illinois Sustainable Ag Partnership has created a section on their website dedicated to stress and mental health resources. The resources will help individuals build a tool-box to help manage mental health challenges.

Anticipatory grief can be protective, allowing someone to move through difficult emotions and emotionally prepare for the loss to come. In fact, some researchers use the term preparedness as a synonym for anticipatory grief, as it is a normal and often functional process when we are aware a loss is on the horizon.
